Define the purchasing duty
A substitute grade is equivalent only within a defined accepted duty. Similar powder appearance, ionic category or nominal molecular indicator cannot establish that a replacement will work in the same preparation system and separator.
Keep the proposed commercial product connected to the feed, preparation route and separator that will decide acceptance.
Preserve the incumbent baseline
Record current code, lot, preparation and operating range before testing. Compare retained incumbent and candidate on split representative feed with a consistent dose basis. The family screen helps organize candidates without declaring every product in one family equivalent.
Results collected on unrelated days may reflect changed feed or water rather than a supplier difference.
Check practical replacement fit
Measure wetting or activation, useful residence, stock viscosity, pump output and injection. A candidate requiring longer preparation or a different transfer route has a conversion condition attached. Review that condition before awarding routine supply.
Use the preparation procedure to separate chemistry from make-down faults.
Confirm the accepted process window
Retain simultaneous quality, rate or throughput, solids handling and consumption data under the intended equipment. Repeat meaningful results on fresh feed. Plan the first production transition with segregation or verified cleaning and a practical fallback.
Attach the approved candidate code and changeover plan to the purchase rather than permitting an unspecified equivalent at shipment.
Check an apparently favorable result
If the replacement passes on an easy sample but fails at the difficult boundary, record a limited qualification instead of deleting the failed result. Commercial savings do not justify extending the approval beyond the tested feed and installation conditions.
Record unresolved conditions separately from completed qualification. A proposed benefit is not a measured plant result.
Keep an acceptance record
Attach candidate code, sample lot, preparation, feed condition and measurement method to the purchase decision. Preserve failed points as well as the preferred condition so later supply can be reviewed against the actual evidence.
