Define the purchasing duty
A gravity belt thickener produces feed for a later operation, not necessarily a final disposal cake. Purchasing should distinguish thickening acceptance from the pressure dewatering targets used for a belt filter press.
Keep the proposed commercial product connected to the feed, preparation route and separator that will decide acceptance.
Define the thickening objective
Record incoming sludge, solids loading, belt condition, speed, wash system and the destination of thickened solids. State the concentration or handling range the downstream unit needs. Avoid setting an isolated maximum-solids target that the receiving process cannot use.
Keep the sludge handling context with the proposed grade.
Measure drainage without hiding losses
Use representative feed and consistent sample points for filtrate before wash-water dilution where practical. Observe free drainage and fine-solids retention rather than relying on visible floc size. Record conditioning residence and delivery calibration.
The dose curve helps bracket underdose and excessive conditioning before plant confirmation.
Check the receiving operation
Compare thickened-solids consistency, capture, throughput and downstream transport or digestion constraints. A candidate that raises solids but creates unstable discharge may not improve the whole route. Include wash demand and cleaning where they affect uptime.
Do not present a laboratory drainage test as guaranteed full-scale thickening or downstream process performance.
Check an apparently favorable result
If the thickener passes its local concentration target but the receiving process cannot accept the changed feed consistently, qualification is incomplete. Keep that interface requirement visible instead of declaring success solely at the belt discharge.
Record unresolved conditions separately from completed qualification. A proposed benefit is not a measured plant result.
Keep an acceptance record
Attach candidate code, sample lot, preparation, feed condition and measurement method to the purchase decision. Preserve failed points as well as the preferred condition so later supply can be reviewed against the actual evidence.
